Zero-emission car sales have soared in the last 10 years, but how do you know if an electric vehicle is right for you? We've broken down some of the different models and incentives that might be available to help you through the process.

Since 2010, California has allocated more than $1.84 billion to a hodgepodge of three programs: the Clean Cars 4 All Program, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project and the Clean Vehicle Assistance Program, according to Air Resources Board data. In exchange, over those 12 years, about half a million Californians have received grants or rebates for buying cleaner cars or replacing older cars.

Buy a used (pre-owned) battery electric vehicle (BEV) and you may be eligible for a cash rebate of up to $3,000. This rebate only applies to used all-electric vehicles with a purchase price below $32,000.

Antelope Valley residents can claim a $500 incentive for the purchase of any make & model battery-electric plug-in vehicle purchased only from Antelope Valley Dealerships (out-of-area purchases are ineligible.)

The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) promotes clean vehicle adoption in California by offering rebates for the purchase or lease of new, eligible zero-emission vehicles, including electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles. Azusa Light & Power EV customers who install an ENERGY STAR Level 2 (240) EV charger in their residence are eligible for $150 rebate. A Level 2 EV charging unit will charge an electric vehicle up to 6 times faster than standard 110 Volt household outlets and can add up to 25 miles of range per hour of charging.

Residential customers can get rebates of up to $1,250 with an electric panel upgrade. Customers living in a Disadvantaged Community (DAC) area of Burbank can qualify for increased rebate amounts of up to $1,500 with an electric panel upgrade.

The City of Ukiah's Electric Utility Department provides a rebate of $500 on a Level 2 electric vehicle charging station for residential customers. Qualifying Level 2 (240-volt) charger must be: new and unused; certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL Listed); ETL Listed; or approved by the City of Ukiah Community Development Department.

Island Energy electricity customers who are current owners or lessees of plug in electric vehicles with an electric range in excess of 30 miles per charge are eligible for a rebate of up to $600 for the installation of a Level 2 (240-volt) home charging station.

Lodi Electric offers a rebate to residential customers for the purchase and installation of a new, qualifying Level 2 (240-volt) electric vehicle charging station. Applications must be postmarked no later than 180 days after the purchase of the Level 2 charger. This program has a limited budget. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, until funds are depleted.

PG&E will cover the cost of up to $500 for one Level 2 charger (hardwires or plugs in to 220+ Volt outlet).PG&E will cover up to $2,000 per single-family household for panel upgrades completed by licensed electricians.

Applicants must be a current Trinity Public Utilities Department customer and submit the incentive application within six months of charger installation.

Truckee Donner Public Utilities District (TDPUD) is offering customers a rebate of up to $600 for the purchase and installation of a new Level 2 (240-volt) electric vehicle home charging station. To be eligible for the rebate, applicants must have an active RDPUD electrical account and submit their application no later than four months from the date the charger was purchased.
