Isshuukan Friends Episode 3

One Week Friends is a 2014 romantic comedy Japanese anime series based on the manga series written by Matcha Hazuki and serialized in Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine.[1][2] One day, high school sophomore Yuki Hase happens to notice that his classmate, Kaori Fujimiya always seems to spend much of her time all by herself. Mustering up his courage, Yuki approaches Kaori and attempts to befriend her which she reluctantly allows. However, after the pair share many meaningful and fun conversations, Kaori denies her friendship with Yuki, stating that she loses the memories of any friends she makes each week. Despite this, the story follows Yuki and his determination to become Kaori's friend over and over again as the weeks go by.[3]

The anime is produced by Brain's Base and directed by Tarou Iwasaki, with script writing by Shōtarō Suga, character designs by Eri Yamazaki and soundtrack music by Nobuko Toda.[4] The series premiered on Tokyo MX on April 6, 2014 and ran for twelve episodes until June 22, 2014, with later airings on MBS, TVA, AT-X and BS11.[5] The series was picked up by Crunchyroll for online simulcast streaming in North America and other select parts of the world.[6][7] Square Enix began releasing the series in Japan on Blu-ray and DVD volumes starting on June 18, 2014.[8] The anime was licensed by Sentai Filmworks for distribution via select digital outlets and a home media release in North America.[9] This was followed by its acquisition by Madman Entertainment for Australian distribution.[10]

One evening, Kaori asks Shogo to explain why Yuki had started avoiding her, with the explanation that Yuki doesn't want to hurt her, ironically serving to hurt her further. The following day, Shogo corners Saki into admitting that she had been avoiding him because she believed he was angry at her, prompting him to apologize. After school, Shogo warns Yuki that everyone else had noticed the rift between him and Kaori. As Winter break begins, Yuki inadvertently runs into Kaori at the bridge much to his surprise and they decide to take a stroll together. During their walk, Kaori recalls how much her life has changed thanks to Yuki after which they finally purchase crêpes together. Afterwards, they both reluctantly try to part ways, although Yuki elects to walk Kaori home and they eventually ends up at an old Shinto shrine. While paying their respects, Kaori tearfully confesses her wish to be even closer friends with Yuki despite his avoidance of her. Realizing that his actions only hurt Kaori, Yuki also confesses the same. As the New Year and school term begins, Yuki recalls the importance of treasuring the memories shared with his friends and of creating new memories. Finally, Yuki approaches Kaori in the class one morning, and both ask each other to be friends.

The following special episodes are part of a mini-series titled, Kaori's Diary (香織の日記, Kaori no Nikki) and were released together with the BD / DVD sets of the main anime series. The episodes recall the events of the original anime series told in retrospect from Kaori's point of view as she writes in her diary.

Saki is a close friend of Shougo whom he constantly worries about through the series. They knew each other since elementary school, but weren't very close at the time. Shougo tended to help Saki in ways when she didn't take any notice to it. For example, in elementary school, he'd do Saki's summer homework for her and place it in her shoe locker in school, but at the time, she didn't know who did it. Then as they meet again (due to Kaori and Yuuki's friendship), Shougo did the same deed again, causing Saki to be very happy and slightly blush. Later on in the series, Saki says to Shougo that he would make a good husband, and that he was very reliable. Shougo, getting flustered, left the room, blushing intensely. This action made Saki think he was mad at what she said. In the last episode, he tells her he was sorry that he made her think that, which makes her happy. She then tells him that she was serious about what she said. This shows that Saki harbors romantic feelings for Shougo. He, as well, likes her in the same way. Also on the last episode, he and Saki are seen and he is somewhat teasing her by trying to hit her head causing her to keeping blocking his hand. Although their relationship was left undecided, the viewers could tell that they both liked each other in a "more-than-just-a-friend" way.

Yuuki Hase reallys wants to befriend Kaori Fujimiya, the girl in his class who seems to be withdrawn and is always alone. Just when he thinks a friendship is blossoming between the two of them, she tells him her secret: Every week, her memories reset. Yuuki resolves to befriend her as many times as it takes, but is he prepared to face the possible pain of being one-week friends?

Yuuki Hase, a high school boy, is concerned about a girl of his classmate, Kaori Fujimiya. She always stays alone and never tries to become close friends with anyone. Given half a chance one day, it seems that Yuuki and Kaori become to have a good relationship that they begin to eat lunch together. Although they enjoy having conversations, Kaori, strangely enough, keeps denying their friendship. On that Friday, she confesses, I have memory disorder. My memories disappear within one week...."

High schooler Yūki Hase notices that his classmate Kaori Fujimiya is always alone, and seemingly has no friends. After approaching her and attempting to become friends, it seems that he is successful until Friday, when Kaori reveals that she loses every memory of her friends each Monday. Despite learning this, Yūki endeavors to become her new friend every week.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Kaori originally, though her aloofness was just an act to avoid making friends and potentially hurting them every week.

  • Arc Words: "Please be friends with me". It's what Hase says to Kaori every week.

  • Book Dumb: Hase, especially at mathematics. Saki too.

  • Broken Bird: Kaori's condition started at elementary school and lasted for ten years, which has led to her developing a facade to protect herself from the pain of forgetting her friends.

  • Brutal Honesty: Shougo sees no need to sugercoat his words.

  • Cloudcuckoolander: Saki has an odd, almost childlike way of looking at the world.

  • The Ditz: Saki's a bit of an airhead.

  • Easy Amnesia: Kaori loses every memory of her friends each Monday.

  • Notably, Kaori doesn't lose memory of those she does not consider to be her friends, which fortunately includes her family.

  • Friendless Background: Kaori's amnesia, which she got in elementary school, causes this.

  • Grew a Spine: The first aesop Shougo taught to Kaori upon their first meeting at the rooftop.

  • Innocently Insensitive: Because she is focusing on forming platonic relationships, Kaori tends to overlook romantic implications her actions can have, causing Hase much frustration.

  • Middle Child Syndrome: Shougo's dislike against women in general is caused by his position as the only son in his family. His elder sister always bosses him around while his younger sibling cries a lot.

  • Mood Whiplash: The transfer student's appearance, relation and response to Kaori's past in chapter 14.

  • Odd Friendship: Yuki and Shougo. They're nothing alike, but the fact that they're on a First-Name Basis with each other hints that they're actually quite close.

  • Shipper on Deck: Both Fujimiya's mom and Saki seem to ship Hase and Fujimiya.

  • Sickeningly Sweet: In-universe example. In episode 3, Shougo claims that Hase and Kaori's friendship is sickeningly sweet to the point where looking at them kills his appetite.

  • The Power of Friendship: Hase's constant efforts to create good memories with Kaori, despite it being supposedly reset at the end of each week, is not entirely fruitless. Kaori begins to retain bits and pieces of her memories even after the reset. Despite that, certain triggers can undo all the effort put in by Hase.

  • The Stoic: Kaori, although her stoicness is mostly a facade.

  • Also, Hase's friend, Shougo.

  • Wham Line: Episode 9 has one.'Hajime: [to Kaori] You broke our promise. You traitor.

  • Also chapter 17/episode 10 when Saki says to Kiryuu: "Kiryuu-kun, we can be family!"
