Tartly-sweet, house-made Willamette Valley raspberry preserves folded into our cheesecake ice cream, then paired with chunks of house-baked chocolate cookie crust. Consider regular cheesecake one-upped.
Thick and creamy peanut butter, folded into peanut butter-infused, Central Coast, grass-fed milk & cream, alongside shards of melted, bittersweet chocolate. A moment of silence for all other peanut butter-based ice creams.
Visions of scorching, hot Summer days. Poolside, toes dancing on hot cement. Organic peppermint bathed in Central Coast, grass-fed milk & cream and our melted, bittersweet chocolate chip. Childhood was never this good.
Salt + caramel? Meh. Caramel + salt + melted, bittersweet chocolate? Uh, yes please? Distinct, caramelized toffee notes bathed in grass-fed milk & cream. A drool-worthy trifecta 10-point Helvetica cannot convey.
Luscious swirls of salted caramel, amid heaps of gooey, rich & chocolaty, house-baked brownies, bathed in decadent, indulgent, vanilla-spiked, sweet cream ice cream. For those times when having it all in life actually seems possible.

The marionberry jam threads through the scoop of lemon ice cream like cirrus clouds in a kind of Roald Dahl universe, dark magenta and pale yellow in an imaginary sky. The ice cream is as smooth as satin, the flavors somehow both subtle and extravagant.
When McConnell started the business, he used cows that grazed about a mile south of the dairy, along San Ysidro Road. The raw milk was brought to the dairy, the ice cream was made and then it was distributed from Paso Robles to the San Fernando Valley.
It has an ample amount of seating and is very modern with its brick walls. I loved being able to walk in, grab a scoop, and continue to shop, but it is not a great location if you are just coming for ice cream since parking can be difficult.
The other location, which is the older one, is more a traditional ice cream shop. Its whitewashed walls remind me of all the times I went to Rite Aid with my parents for a cheap scoop of ice cream growing up. There are a few small seating areas inside and outside, so you can enjoy your ice cream there.
Mission Street Ice Cream & Yogurt, formerly known as McConnell's on Mission, proudly features world famous McConnell's Ice Creams. Our store is independently owned and operated by Santa Barbarans Bob and Jean Moss, and if you come in to the shop, you are likely to meet us there. We believe in treating people with care and respect and that is the reason you will see the friendly, familiar faces of Mission Street's long time employees and loyal customers, year after year. Oh yes, and there is that amazing ice cream & the delicious fresh frozen yogurt!
The Palmers used their insurance money, along with other funds, to rebuild the dairy operation and purchase new equipment. They opened a handful of scoop shops in California (there's four currently with plans to expand to seven by the end of the year) and worked on boosting the company's small retail operation. The Palmers also utilized their connections in the food world -- his wife Eva Ein is a chef -- and partnered with them to sell its ice creams in restaurants in California.
Unlike most other ice cream brands, McConnell's is also the manufacturer, meaning its makes the cream and is responsible for the ingredients that go into its products. Retailing between $8 and $10 a pint, McConnell's is now sold in more than 2,000 stores throughout the U.S., including Whole Foods. The company also ships its products nationwide through its website and runs a pint of the month club. It has made more than 100 flavors with at least 40 on the market at a given time. The most popular flavors include Eureka Lemon & Marionberries and Sea Salt Cream & Cookies.
So much of this business is a race to the bottom, for profit's sake. While profit is critical -- and we must continue to grow -- our goal has always been the same: to make the finest ice creams and dairy products in the business. It's important to make the process be the thing. We believe and hope this is what distinguishes us and that people will over time recognize what makes McConnell's so special, and this will pave the way for a successful future.
Food in general tends to attract certain people, and it's usually not the people who are attracted to technology, for instance. There's a nurturing thing about food. You're giving something you've made to someone else. I love the idea of growing things, whether growing grapes, which we then turn into wine, or taking a raw material like cream and then turning it into ice cream.

"It chose me. It reached out and grabbed me. I had so many memories of the old Mission Bell Cafà where I ate many a breakfast," he said, adding that he and his wife, Tracy, live just a few blocks from the business, which sits at 3241 E. Main St.
Young, standing in the middle of the spotless parlor, showed where cars would drive though for gas back when Dunning Street was the first Ventura exit off the old Pacific Coast Highway. Now Dunning Street has been turned into a cul-de-sac, which Young said is often filled with cars full of customers.
"I would mix the eggs in by hand and add in the cream. I thought I was being helpful, but the old guy I worked for didn't think so. Years later, I asked him if he remembered me coming in to help out," Young said. "He said, ?Help? All I remember is spending the rest of the day fishing out the eggshells you got in the ice cream.' "
"We get our chocolate from Guittard and the vanilla comes from a place in Paso Robles where they sell vanilla made with real Tahitian beans," Young said, adding that he limits the ingredients to heavy cream, eggs, sugar and fresh flavorings. In addition to ice cream, McConnell's also sells frozen yogurt.
Young said his biggest challenge isn't coming up with new flavors of ice cream, but in keeping the old flavors that customers love, although he is always looking for new ideas. He turned to Cayla Hensley, an employee and Buena High School graduating senior, to ask what kind of ice cream flavor she thought would be good. 041b061a72
